Before passage of the anti-conspiracy bill in Japan, Mr. Snowden warns that Japan is facing the danger of turning into a surveillance society. According to him, the mass surveillance system provided by the U.S. “can monitor mails or telephone calls, records of Internet activities in real time.”
Mr. Snowden says that mass surveillance is extremely ineffective as counterterror initiative and those in a position of power use extremists as an excuse to create laws that encroach on people’s liberties. This remark is the same as what I have commented on this blog.
President Putin says that “95% of the world’s terrorist attacks are orchestrated by the CIA.” Mr. Snowden is the former contractor for the CIA and Mr. Putin was the head of the intelligence agency and is now the president of Russia. We should pay attention to remarks by such influential persons.
If I make a similar remark on this blog, it is considered to be a conspiracy theory. However, remarks by President Putin and Mr. Snowden show that what many people think conspiracy theories are all the facts.

Whistleblower Snowden Warns of looming mass surveillance in Japan
With regard to the Japanese government which aims to pass the anti-conspiracy bill, Mr. Snowden, the former contractor of the U.S. intelligence agency, warned Japanese of looming mass surveillance society. Anti-conspiracy bill enables the investigation authorities to punish organizational criminal groups in case that they judge that the groups agree to carry out a crime and prepare for it.
“This is the beginning of a new wave of mass surveillance in Japan,” Kyodo, which had an interview with Mr. Snowden in Moscow reported. Mr. Snowden considers that the consequences could be even grave when combined with the use of wide-reaching online data collection tool called XKEYSCORE. The system can monitor the target’s mails and telephone calls and records of Internet activities in real time. Mr. Snowden says that the system was provided to Japan by the U.S.
Mr. Snowden compared the current situation in Japan with the situation after the 911 terrorist attacks. He points out that mass surveillance sacrifices citizens’ liberty and it is extremely ineffective in fighting terrorism.
Five days earlier, Mr. Snowden, the former contractor of NSA and CIA, made a comment on the remark made by Chancellor Merkel: “We Europeans must take our fate into our hands.”
